Less than a week in, and I have already had struggles with continuing a habit of writing each night. In my defence, I journal daily, and that in and of itself is a lot of writing. But forming a coherent thought, one that is relevant enough to put “pen to paper” doesn’t always happen.
That’s the point, though, isn’t it?
The world today is built on performance. The prevalence of social media and having an online presence puts much of our lives on display. We open ourselves up to praise, criticism, judgment, accolades and all within a matter of minutes. That is exactly what I am trying to combat. I don’t need a coherent concept every day; I simply need to express an experience. It’s not performance; it’s authenticity.
I want to write. I want to write for me. It could be argued that journaling checks that box, and yet, I want to put it out into the world. I want to build the discipline and the habit. It’s a test of exposure that I can continue on even if I receive criticism or judgment, and that I can continue on even if I don’t receive praise or accolades.
So today, I write, and tomorrow, I may write more.
Until tomorrow 🖤
